The Life - Frozen in Time

The Life - Frozen in Time

The earthquake was massive and we watched as the tsunami demolished Japan on the news. Nobody knew how big it was going to be or what was coming exactly, but we knew it was coming. Santa Cruz was on high alert. I made sure my family was safe and then jammed down to the Rivermouth. There were a ton of guys out in the lineup, and I wondered “Have these guys not seen the footage of the last Tidal Wave in Thailand?” I was tripping!

All of a sudden the water started rushing out to sea. The water turned brown and everyone started paddling South to avoid getting sucked into the cauldron. I saw a big wave heading towards the Harbor and got in my car and raced over that way. When i got to the bridge there were people and cars parked all over the place, so i just pulled over on the bridge and grabbed my camera. There were already boats floating down the harbor upside down. “What is going on?” I wondered, as a wave jacked up outside the Jetty. It came rushing in and boats started crashing as the docks were ripped out of the ground!

I took this shot as that set was hitting.

Alex, Raymond and I headed over to pick up Gavin at his house in West Oz. We were on a mission to surf one of the better and sharkest waves in that region. When we pulled up Gavin was on the porch reading the newspaper. We were already a little on edge, and this article about a fatal shark attack the day before didn’t help anything. Seconds after this shot was taken we were off and scored insane waves all day long. I remember at one point during the session something hit me in the leg. I screamed and everyone turned around. I guess everyone was still a little freaked out
